Oktoberfest
Fans of Fall and German beers, bites, and fun will celebrate as the City of Highland Park presents Oktoberfest at The Lot (523 Central) on Friday, September 16 from 5-10 PM and Saturday, September 17 from 12-10 PM.
This free event boasts traditional dance and music with an authentic seven piece German band, Die Musikmeisters, providing music throughout entire weekend performing a diverse repertoire of German polkas, waltzes, marches, folk, audience participation songs, and American swing and rock. Die Musikmeisters will play from 5-10 PM on Friday and again from 12-2:30 PM and 6:30 10 PM on Saturday with strolling musicians Joe DeLuca and special guests playing the accordion and horns from 3-6 PM on Saturday.
Two ‘Bier Garten’ stations will be presented by Ravinia Brewing Company (RBC) with seasonal RBC offerings, along with German favorites Spaten Doppelbock, Schlenkerla Smoked Marzen, DAB Dortmunder, Ayinger Hefeweizen and Hofbrau Oktoberfest. Local restaurants bringing the German-themed foodie deliciousness include: Michael’s with sausages, hotdogs, and Bavarian pretzels with all the fixings and fries, Max’s Deli’s potato salad and potato pancakes, Pixca’s pork and chicken schnitzel with braised cabbage, vegetarian spetzel and sacher-torte cake, Puffy Houzz with German pancakes, and Da Pizza Dude serving sausage and sauerkraut pizza, and more.
Activities will include polka dancing, beer stein holding contests, hammer-schlagen, pretzel necklace making presented by Sunset Foods and more!
