Summer Fun in the Ravinia District
The Ravinia District of Highland Park is springing with excitement as new businesses open, outdoor dining begins, a new art installation is unveiled, and the Ravinia Farmers Market and Food Truck Thursdays are announced!
New Businesses
The community welcomes two new businesses, Astra Coffee Roasters (477 Roger Williams Avenue), featuring fresh roasted in-house coffee beans and brewed coffee and pastries in a comfortable coffeehouse setting, and The Chunky Scone (733 St. Johns Avenue), a vegan bakery featuring high-quality ingredients, including a selection of gluten-free vegan items, too.
Outdoor Dining
Outdoor dining abounds in the Ravinia District (weather permitting) at Abigail’s, Astra Coffee Roasters, BWB Shakes and Ravinia Brewing Company (along Roger Williams Avenue and in their backyard tented beer garden), Happi Sushi, Sally’s Nuts, The Chunky Scone: Vegan Bakery and Viaggio. The public is invited to order take out from Piero’s Pizza and any Ravinia District restaurant to enjoy an al fresco picnic at Jens Jensen or Brown Parks.
Summer Events
Food Truck Thursdays and the Ravinia Farmers Market will return to the Ravinia District beginning in June!
The Ravinia Farmers Market will run Wednesdays, June 1 through October 26, from 7 AM to 1 PM along Dean Avenue and in Jens Jensen Park. For a list of 2022 vendors and live musical performers, visit www.raviniafarmersmarket.com.
Food Truck Thursdays return June 2 through September 8, from 4:30 PM to dusk in Jens Jensen Park (Dean Avenue between Roger Williams and St. Johns Avenues), across from the Ravinia Metra Station. Alfresco diners are invited to come and enjoy various food and drinks from more than a dozen rotating food trucks every week on Dean Avenue, adult beverages from local restaurants, including Abigail's American Bistro and Ravinia Brewing Company, and dance to a wide range of live musical performances in Jens Jensen Park.
Norman Teague Art Installation
Visitors to the Ravinia District will enjoy a one-of-a-kind art installation featuring visionary artist and furniture maker Norman Teague, from May 26 through July 14. Set inside The Art Center Highland Park’s new satellite gallery located in Ravinia Crossing’s storefront (515-555 Roger Williams Avenue), admirers can view this Chicago-based designer’s works created by local fabricators out of locally-sourced building materials. The results are objects and spaces that explore simplicity, honesty, and cleverness and relate to the culture of the client and/or community. A guided audio tour of the exhibit will be available 24/7 to anyone with a smartphone using QR codes.
The public is encouraged to walk or bike along the enhanced Green Bay Trail - Robert McLory Bike Trail that leads into the charming Ravinia District. The Ravinia District of Highland Park is easily accessible from north or south by riding the Metra to the Ravinia Station, Pace Bus, or if traveling by car, Highland Park is easily accessible via north Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan Road, US 41 and 294. Exit Clavey Road east to Green Bay Road and east on Roger Williams Avenue. Free parking is available.
