World Music Fest

World Music Fest at Highland Park’s new alfresco entertainment space The Lot (523 Central) will bring together diverse music and food offerings in a fun, festival atmosphere on Saturday, July 16 from 11 AM-6 PM. Attendees will enjoy a full day of music and dance performances from around the world and sample international cuisines as they immerse themselves into different cultures. Dancing is more than encouraged, it’s almost required!
Enjoy global beats from a variety of musicians including rhythmic drums, Cuban rumba, Indian flamenco, Mexican folk and more! World Music Fest is free to attend.
SATURDAY, JULY 16, 11 AM – 6 PM LIVE ENTERTAINMENT LINE-UP
11 AM – 12 PM- Life Rhythms Inc. Drum Circle will encourage attendees to experience heartbeats and breath together, through an energizing expression of rhythmic drum beats.
12:30 – 2 PM – Roger Sosa Los Perros Cubanos features music of Cuba’s Golden Age of the 1940’s and 1950’s.
2:30 – 4 PM – Surabhi Ensemble is Chicago’s Indian Arabic Flamenco full experience! This global music and dance collective builds cross-cultural exchange through instruments and people.
4:30 – 6 PM – Sones de Mexico Ensemble promotes greater appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music and culture.
“World Music Fest features exceptionally talented artists playing music that crosses cultures and blends genres,” said Mayor Nancy Rotering. “Given its location in in the heart of downtown Highland Park at the intersection of Central and St. Johns, The Lot is truly a gathering place at the crossroads of our city. It’s the perfect place to celebrate the music and cuisines of just a few of the cultural communities that call the Highland Park home.”
